Layout and amenities

Ground floor: 4 Bedrooms; the first a twin with ensuite shower room; the second with bunks beds, 1 single bed and ensuite shower room, the third with double bed and the fourth with 3 single beds. Shared bathroom for the third and fourth bedroom. One of the bedrooms has an exit to the yard.
First floor: Entrance via outdoor stairs. Lounge with fireplace and TV. Bathroom (shower/toilet). Large dining room. Well-equipped half open kitchen.
Top floor: Roof terrace with barbecue.
Heating: Open fireplace in the lounge, electric heaters in the dining room and in the bedrooms.
Amenities: TV with dvd-player, washing machine, microwave oven, toaster, coffee machine, barbecue, cot (at request), wi-fi Internet.

House and surroundings

The reservoir of Caniçada (almost 700 hectares) is at the border of the Serra da Cabreira and the Serra do Gerês on the North side. For those who seek recreation by or on the water, alternating with visits to the Portuguese national park Peneda-Gerês, this is an ideal place.

Casa Poula is situated in the village of Rio Caldo, just a few minutes walk from the marina. It is nicely furnished and has ample room for 10 people. The most beautiful spot is without a doubt the roof terrace, where you can enjoy the sun all day and look out over the water and the mountains. On the terrace is also a barbecue. In front of the house is a sheltered yard.

From Rio Caldo there are two roads leading into the national park; one goes via the village and sanctuary of São Bento, the other leads to the spa of Caldas do Gerês, where you find an information centre. They provide information on flora and fauna of the park, archeological finds (among which the roman road that once lead from the city of Braga to Rome), walking routes, etc.
The owner of Casa Poula lets out canoes, pedaloes and motor boats. He can also help out if you want to (learn to) waterski or make a guided tour with a Landrover through the park.

There are several restaurants, cafés and shops at walking distance. In Sta. Maria do Bouro (± 8 km in the direction of Amares) are more shops, a weekly market and an excellent restaurant in the historic pousada.
The distance to Braga and to Guimarães (Unesco World Heritage) is about 40 km.

The minimum stay in the high season is 1 week, in the rest of the year 4 days.
The day price for each extra day from the 2nd week = week price / 7.
Pets are not allowed.

Information on the way we work

Booking

To book one of our properties simply send us an e-mail with the following details:

Your full name, address and mobile telephone number;
The name of the property of your choice;
The period (date of arrival and date of departure);
The number of people (adults and children, plus ages of the children);
The number of rooms (if applicable);
Additional information, such as the use of a cot.

We will send you thereupon by e-mail a confirmation with directions for payment. At request we will send you a written confirmation by mail as well.

The deposit

Payments can be made in Euros by an international bank transfer. You can also pay through Paypal, in which case we will make a 2% charge as a contribution to the costs incurred.
As soon as we receive your down payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail, including detailed directions to the property.

Confirmation

As soon as we receive the balance of the payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail. In this message we will ask you to let us know – not later than 2 days in advance – the time of arrival, so we or the owner can be on time to welcome you and hand over the keys.

The day of your arrival

On the day of your arrival we or the owner will be at the property at the time you agreed upon. If you expect to arrive later, for instance because your flight is delayed, please let us know as soon as possible.
If we ourselves cannot be at the property on the day or time of your arrival, we will try to come by one of the following days. Of course you won’t need to stay in, waiting for us, so if we don’t meet and you do have questions, don’t hesitate to call us.

Information on shops , restaurants, sight seeing…

For all our properties detailed information is available on shops, restaurants, wine, sight seeing, but also on hospitals, pharmacies, banks, etc. In some cases you will find the information in the house, in other cases we will send it to you together with the confirmation of the payment of the balance.
